We’re excited to release Tumult Whisk 2.0! Whisk is the application formerly known as HyperEdit. It is a lightweight HTML/PHP editor showing your changes live as you make them. Its main features include:
- Preview pane quickly renders HTML and PHP as typed, using the same engine as Safari
- Watched Files automatically (or manually) determine when files are changed and will reload the web preview
- Live W3C-based HTML5 validation red-underlines mistakes and lists issues
- Preview to other browsers or the Hype Reflect app on iOS
- Web Inspector/Dev Tools access
- Customizable syntax highlighting coloring
- Reusable code snippets and color swatches
Whisk is an essential app in a web developer’s toolkit. It is lightweight so it is easy to get in and out of. It doesn’t replace other source editors; Whisk can make whole sites but truly shines when needing to test snippets of web-related code, playing with CSS styling, or writing rich forum or blog posts. Live previewing is a pivotal way to work.

Version 2.0 is a complete overhaul and modernization of the application. Its refreshed UI uses many of the same conventions as our company’s other app, Hype. There are a plethora of revamped features and enhancements targeted at making the edit+preview experience more efficient.
